6G & WiFi Sensing
Folder: 04 - TECHNOLOGY & SURVEILLANCE Source note: SRC - 6G & WiFi Sensing
The Distinction That Matters
The next generation of wireless technology is not just faster internet. It is a sensing network.
This distinction is not our framing. It is in the official documentation of the engineers building it — the IEEE, the FCC, Huawei, Rohde & Schwarz, and the ITU.
The term they use is ISAC: Integrated Sensing and Communication. One system. Two functions. Simultaneously. Through the same infrastructure. verified
WiFi Sensing — What Exists Right Now
This is not future technology. This is current, peer reviewed, commercially deployed capability.
WiFi signals interact with physical objects and bodies in their environment through a mechanism called Channel State Information (CSI) — the way a signal changes as it bounces off and passes through objects in a space. By analysing these changes with machine learning algorithms, researchers have demonstrated the following capabilities: verified
Presence detection: WiFi-based non-contact human presence detection achieves up to 99% accuracy in peer reviewed studies published in Scientific Reports (2024). Through solid walls. Without cameras or microphones.
Activity recognition: Studies published in ACM Computing Surveys (2024) and IEEE Xplore (2024) document WiFi-based recognition of human activities — walking, sitting, falling, gesturing — at accuracy rates of 97–99.9% using deep learning models.
Through-wall detection: ScienceDirect (2023) published research achieving 97.5% accuracy in classifying seven human activities through walls using WiFi CSI and deep learning.
Vital signs: Breathing rate to ±1 breath per minute accuracy. Heart rate detection. Both documented in peer reviewed literature and already deployed commercially in elder care devices for fall detection.
Emotional state inference: Micro-movements of the body — changes in posture, breathing rhythm, subtle physical tension — can be analysed from WiFi reflections to infer emotional state. This is in the research literature. #credible
Individual identification: A comprehensive survey published in MDPI Sensors (October 2024) documents WiFi-based human identification through gait analysis — identifying specific individuals from the way their body moves through a space, using only WiFi signal reflections. No camera. No biometric device. Just the router. verified
The MIT Technology Review confirmed in February 2024: “After a decade of obscurity, the technology is being used to track people’s movements.”
The router in your home is already a passive sensor. This is not what it was sold as. verified
WiFi 6 and 7 — Sensing Built In
WiFi is evolving from its initial 802.11 standard through WiFi 6 (802.11ax) to WiFi 7 (802.11be) released in 2024.
The IEEE 802.11bf amendment — ratified in 2024 — formally standardises WiFi sensing as part of the WiFi specification. Sensing capability is now a built-in feature of the standard, not a research experiment.
The PMC review of WiFi sensing advancements (November 2024) states: the IEEE 802.11bf amendment planned sensing as part of a regular WiFi service by late 2024. #verified
6G — The Next Layer
6G networks are currently in active international development. China’s 14th Five-Year Plan prioritises 6G as national infrastructure. The US government through NIST and FCC has funded foundational 6G research. The 3GPP held its 6G workshop in Incheon, South Korea in March 2025 to define technical standards. Deployment is projected for the early 2030s. verified
The key difference from 5G is not just speed. It is frequency range and sensing integration.
6G will use terahertz (THz) frequencies — 0.1 to 10 THz — wavelengths short enough to interact with the physical environment at sub-centimetre resolution.
What ISAC means for 6G: verified
ISAC — Integrated Sensing and Communication — is a formally documented core capability of 6G. The network simultaneously communicates data and maps the physical environment in real time through the same signal.
Documented research goals for 6G ISAC — from IEEE, FCC, and official 6G research programs: verified
- Sub-centimetre human body tracking
- Physiological monitoring without wearables — heart rate, breathing, stress indicators
- Emotion recognition from physical signals
- Indoor positioning to centimetre accuracy
- Real-time 3D environmental mapping
- “Digital twin” creation of physical spaces and the people in them
- Healthcare patient monitoring without contact or wearables
The FCC’s own 2025 TAC 6G Working Group Report confirms: ISAC is one of the numerous core topics in 6G being investigated across industry, academia, and government.
The network becomes the sensor. The infrastructure becomes the surveillance system. No camera needed. No microphone needed. The air itself becomes the instrument. verified
The Honest Counterpoint on
Biological Safety
The research surfaced an important counterargument that belongs in this note honestly.
Huawei’s 6G research documentation states: THz photons are non-ionizing because their photon energy is not sufficient to release an electron from an atom or molecule. 1 THz is equivalent to 4 meV — over three orders of magnitude weaker than ionizing radiation thresholds.
This is the industry and mainstream physics position: THz radiation is non-ionizing and therefore considered safe at standard exposure levels. verified
What is the honest challenge to this position: credible
Current safety standards for wireless radiation are established by ICNIRP — the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection — and are based primarily on thermal effects. Whether a signal heats tissue.
The September 2025 MDPI peer reviewed survey on ISAC and healthcare explicitly notes ICNIRP safety limits in its comparison of frequency bands — and those limits address thermal effects only.
Non-thermal biological effects of electromagnetic frequencies — the effects documented by Dr. Ross Adey and others at the cellular interface level — are not incorporated into ICNIRP standards or into the regulatory framework for 6G deployment.
See MKUltra for Adey’s research. See Water & Frequency for the cellular water mechanism.
The gap is not disputed by mainstream science. It is simply not addressed. Safety standards were built on a thermal model. The non-thermal biology literature exists in peer reviewed journals. The two conversations have not been formally reconciled.
We are being bathed in synthetic frequencies whose non-thermal biological effects are documented in peer reviewed literature but not incorporated into safety standards. credible
The Body as The Environment
The human body is approximately 70% water. Water responds to frequency. See Water & Frequency
Terahertz frequencies interact with biological tissue in ways that are actively being researched for medical imaging — because they penetrate tissue and reveal structural information.
The same penetration and interaction properties being developed for medical sensing are the properties present in the ambient 6G environment. The difference between a medical THz imaging device and an ambient 6G signal is not the physics. It is the intent and the power level.
At the power levels of ambient 6G deployment the biological interaction is orders of magnitude weaker than medical imaging. At the scale of continuous daily exposure across billions of people over decades — the cumulative question is the one mainstream safety standards have not answered. investigate
The Convergence
Connect what is already built and what is being built:
- WiFi sensing maps your physical state — movement, breathing, heart rate, emotional state — from the router in your room right now. verified
- Behavioural AI maps your psychological state. See Surveillance Capitalism
- 6G ISAC delivers both sensing and content simultaneously through the same infrastructure. #verified
- Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI) manages the macro environment.
- Palantir processes the data and makes it actionable.
The result: a system that can monitor your physiological state, map your physical environment, deliver personalised content at your most vulnerable moment, and do all of it through infrastructure that is invisible, everywhere, and mandatory for modern participation in society.
This is not projection. Every component of this system is documented in peer reviewed literature, official regulatory filings, and corporate technical specifications.

What Grounds You
The same physics that makes WiFi a passive sensor of your body also explains the counter.
The Earth’s electromagnetic field — the Schumann Resonance at 7.83 Hz — is the frequency your nervous system evolved inside. It is not synthetic. It is not designed to monitor or influence. It is 4 billion years old.
A body in direct contact with the Earth — grounded, in natural electromagnetic environment, away from dense synthetic infrastructure — is a body inside its native frequency environment rather than a synthetic one.
Not as lifestyle philosophy. As electromagnetic physics.
The induced AC voltage from ambient WiFi and cellular fields that builds up in an ungrounded human body is measurable with a voltmeter and drops to near zero upon grounding. This is documented.
